The Poynter Dorset flock was established in 1970 with major purchases from the Ross, Roach, LaRosh, Worthington and Harlan Wagner families. The Poynter flock is known for big, correct, high volume sheep with style. The Poynter's are very proud of the accomplishments of the sheep they have sold to major breeders across the country. Poynter genetics have influenced such flocks as Stony Point, Ghiselin, Cardinal Creek, Riverwood, Mithoefer, Bradford, Penn State, Dew Drop, Crome and Comforts, just to name a few.

The Poynter flock practices line breeding with their 50 select ewes and maybe that is the reason they perform so well for other people when outside bloodlines are introduced. The Poynters would like to thank Mithoefers for the opportunity to buy 1/2 interest in "Diesel" and the Crome Family for the purchase of "RRed Hott", both RR rams.

The Poynter flock is a small family operation located near Paris, Illinois. Jeff is a retired vocational agriculture teacher and his wife, Jan, is a retired elementary education teacher. Jeff and Jan have one son, Jared, and a daughter-in-law, Kara, who both teach high school agriculture in northern Illinois.

Jared also has a small flock of Shropshires that have been winners on the national level, visit our Shropshire site to learn more about this flock. If you are ever in East Central Illinois, the Poynter family would graciously invite you into their home. We are located only 15 miles North of I-70.
